Featured Aircraft Blog – Hawker 4000

Overview

The Hawker 4000, originally known as the Hawker Horizon, has been in service since 2008.   This aircraft was Hawker Beechcraft’s plan to be more competitive in the super mid-size jet category.

As of August 2015, 20.3 % of the active fleet is available for resale.  This includes 6 on-the-market options as well as 8 off-market options that Hatt & Associates are aware of.  This super mid-size jet has faced recent struggles due to Hawker Beechcraft’s bankruptcy in 2013, but saw a strong presence in 2014 with 14 transactions stemming from the news that Textron Aviation agreed to support the airplanes.  The average asking price for this aircraft is $6,281,000.  The market has seen this aircraft trade anywhere from $3,500,000 to $6,900,000 in 2015.

Brief History

The Hawker 4000 completed certification in 2008, and there are 69 aircraft in the active fleet.  This would be the last business jet designed by Hawker Beechcraft, and this aircraft certainly lived up to what Hawker Beechcraft has become known for: cabin comfort.

The 4000 cabin measures 29.5 feet long, 6 feet high, and 6.5 feet wide, and can be configured for 8, plus 1 belted lavatory seat and an optional jumpseat.  Known for being luxurious, it is equipped with all the features necessary for a high level office in the sky.  These features include: power outlets, MagnaStar 2000 air-to-ground phone, Rockwell Collins Air Show Map, and a full galley with above-average storage space. The biggest upgrade from previous Hawker aircraft is the big baggage compartment to the aft of the lavatory that can still be accessed during flight.

The engines on this aircraft are Pratt & Whitney PW308A engines, which produce 6,900 lbs of thrust at takeoff.  These engines allow the 4000 to have 3,000 nm of range while still flying at Mach .82. Other big advantages the 4000 presents are its exceptional climb capability and that it is among the shortest runway requirements in the class.

While this aircraft has struggled since the bankruptcy in 2013, we still consider it to be one of the best values in the super mid-size category.  It has the performance and range of the Bombardier and Gulfstream equivalents, while boasting a better cabin experience, and is available pre-owned for more than half the price.
